Refulgent Faces…

“Those who live their lives in difficulties 
Wear faces lit, with refulgence, alive. 
O Lord, I pray that I may come to know, 
How do they, in such sorrow and grief, glow?”

Inspired by a poem of Sachal Sarmast.  

Sachal Sarmast (1739-1829), namely Khwaja Abdul Wahab, was born in a family of mystics at Drazan in Khairpur, Sindh. He was born when Kalhoras were in power and grew up in Talpur period. He passed away when the British had just started influencing Sindh. He was reputed for upholding the “Sach (Pronounced Such)” (Truth) and being ‘intoxicated’ (Sarmast) i.e. being oblivious of worldly considerations, hence Sachal Sarmast. He wrote poetry in Sindhi, Siraiki, Persian, Punjabi and Urdu. His was a belief of “Hama ust” (All is He),  he was from what some call “Theosophical Sufis” school of thought.
